MyLifeLabs
Reimagining the LifeLabs patient portal to create a modern, consistent, accessible, and personalized health management experience, while also promoting and monetizing LifeLabs' services and partnerships.
OVERVIEW
MyLifeLabs is a product within the LifeLabs product ecosystem, with over 18 million logins per year. It offers individuals the opportunity to receive testing results and analytics online after visiting a lab or clinic, or testing with home kits. The platform also provides personalized recommendations to optimize the health care journey.
A rigorous discovery process to review the existing platform and research material to define goals and requirements
This process included reviewing user research material, facilitating a collaborative workshop with key stakeholders and auditing the current experience. Other key activities included strategizing on implementation of a design system and creating an accessibility checklist.
Early design exploration to build confidence on an overall direction
At the time, LifeLabs used different visual styles across its ecosystem. This lack of consistency created a fractured brand. By collaborating with the LifeLabs team, a look and feel was established that expressed the brand in an engaging way, met the accessibility standards that were required, and was robust enough to work with components across the ecosystem, not just within MyLifeLabs. This was integral to gaining trust and alignment with the executive leadership team in the early stages of this project.
Establishing foundational styles and building a customized component library
The custom component library system included core elements and components that were needed for the MyLifeLabs platform. These components standardized the look and feel, and ensured that accessibility requirements were being met at the foundational level.
Detailed Design Phase
With the partnership of the LifeLabs team, features and screens were prioritized according to what was necessary for development. The result was a fast paced schedule that produced hundreds of mobile and desktop screens, covering core and edge case scenarios across the entire platform.
The resulting designs were mobile friendly and accessible. Content, purposeful layout and information hierarchy worked hand-in-hand to ensure customers were aware of how to access their health data and metrics, personalized recommendations and LifeLabs offerings.
Personalized dashboard that supports multiple profiles
The dashboard provides a quick glance of recent reports, appointments and recommendations. MyLifeLabs also supports multiple profiles with “My Circle”, allowing family members or caregivers to access and manage the health data of others.
Health Data
The health data page houses test result reports. The detailed reports themselves were designed to account for a wide variety of content types, markers and character lengths. Analytics pages allow users to see their results listed and graphed over time. Users can add or remove members to their “MyCircle” to be able to access their reports and analytics as well.
Partnerships and Health Data Connectivity
Test reports can be shared with individuals outside MyCircle, by invitation. Access to these reports can be managed at any time. Users can also view reports that have been shared with them in the report sharing space.
LifeLabs partnership with Abbott, allows individuals managing diabetes to set up automatically shared ambulatory glucose profile (AGP) reports with their managing physician. Physicians can modify the frequency of these reports.
Account Login, Creation and Management
Designs for login and account creation for multiple account types. This included designing for error states, security questions, password reset, and appropriate guidance for registered account creation, which is a more complex form.
